Haunted Happenings

John and I joke that there is a ghost in the house. A ghost who throws toys and socks around. A ghost who hides overdue library books and working pens. But we’re beginning to wonder more if our joking doesn’t have some basis in reality.  Recent strange happenings around our home:

*doorbell ringing in the middle of the night or during the day (no one there nor did the motion detector light turn on at night)

*the fireplace flue opening when we’re watching TV (with a nice audible “clunk”)

*Pictures falling off the wall (and shattering my favorite cake plate)

*kitchen lights that flicker and turn on and off randomly

*garage door opening by itself

And, this morning during breakfast, another picture falling off the wall — not to land shattered on the floor, but to make a bizarre and perfect landing in the middle of the couch a foot away. Had we not seen it with our eyes, we would have been puzzled as to how the picture got there.

Yes….all of these things can be attributed to ordinary events — maybe strange wiring, uneven and settling walls, or a windy night.  Maybe it’s nothing at all.  Or, maybe, it is.

    Hi Jill –
I found you via moneysavingmom.com’s post on eliminating paper towels, and I wanted to let you know what I do to use fewer plastic bags. My daughter uses a bento box-style lunchbox from http://www.laptoplunches.com, and I love it. It’s on its second year of use at preschool, and it’s still in great shape. I’m sure there are other similar products available, but I like this company’s philosophy on healthy eating, minimizing waste, and educating consumers. Check them out – it may work for you too.

    Best,
    MaryAnn
